Emile Hirsch has checked into rehab for alcohol abuse after police hit him with a felony assault charge for allegedly choking Daniele Bernfeld, a Hollywood movie exec, at a Sundance Film Festival party.
Police say that he “appeared intoxicated” after confronting Daniele at the festival in Park City, Utah.
The festival is the de facto independent film festival in the United States, as it maintains the largest audience. It’s held in Park City, Ogden, Salt Lake City, and at the Sundance Resort.
The last Sundance Film Festival was held on January 22 through Feburary 1, 2015.
Bernfeld claims the Lone Survivor actor choked her on January 25 at Tao Nightclub around 3:52 p.m. and that he choked her so hard she felt like the front and back of her throat had touched.
Afterwards, the Dani told the police that everything seemed to go dark and she blacked out.
Hirsch on the other hand, claims to have drank so much that he blacked out and has no recollection of the woman, nor the incident.
The county prosecutor, Ryan Stack, confirmed that the woman involved in the incident is an executive over at Insurge Pictures, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.
Police have indicated that the actor asked the exec why she looked “so tough” and called her a “rich kid” who didn’t belong at the festival.
Hirsch appeared intoxicated and asked [Daniele Bernfeld] why she looked ‘so tough’ and said she was a ‘rich kid’ who should not be at Sundance.
A spokesperson speaking on behalf of Hirsch said that he’d checked himself into rehab to treat his alcohol addiction and that he was charged with a felony stemming from the alleged choking on the very same day. His spokesperson said that his client, who was at Sundance for the Ten Thousand Saints premiere, had “consumed an enormous amount of alcohol” and that he had “no memory” of what happened on the night in question.
