Jennifer Lopez was driving her Rolls Royce in Malibu this past September with her best friend, Leah Remini, Lopez’s 6 year old twins, as well as Remini’s 10 year old daughter when a drunk driver crashed into them. According to a report by the LA Times on Dec. 29, prosecutors have charged the man, Robert John Reitz, 53 years old, with a DUI. Although the man was drunk and crashed into Lopez’s Rolls Royce, neither of the women or the kids was injured.
According to the Los Angeles District Attorney, Reitz’s blood alcohol level was at .15 percent when the incident occurred. After crashing into Lopez’s car with her best friend and their children in it, Reitz drove away. However, he is now being charged with a DUI. He has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to Contact Music, Lopez posted about it on her Instagram saying:
Sitting at a light, Riding high right before some drunk fool rear ended us in my new whip!!! Thank god everyone ok!!! #GRATEFUL #THANKYOUGOD #DontdrinkandDrive!!!! #cursedthatfoolout #theBronxcameout #dontmesswithmycocnuts #mamabear #leahstayedcalm #thatwasweird.
With this, she also posted a photo of her and her best friend, the former ‘King of Queens’ actress, Leah Remini.
Reitz faces jail time and a fine. If he is convicted, he could be sentenced to 6 months in jail as well as a $1,000 fine for his actions in this incident. It is just a good thing the ladies and the children didn’t get hurt and everyone is safe and sound.
