The first downloadable map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set to be released early 2016. The game’s maker, Activision, revealed some of the details about the new gameplay content at this weekend’s Playstation Experience. The company dubbed the game’s new downloadable content “Awakening.”

Although many details concerning Awakening have not been released yet, Activision teased gamers with a bit of information, explaining that four new maps – Skyjacked, Rise, Splash, and Gauntlet – would be available to players. Additionally, another chapter of the Zombies saga will come with Awakening. Activision has named this chapter “Der Eisendrachen.”

Awakening will also include some other minor additions to gameplay. Game Rant speculated that it may be something as simple as new weapon skins.

The expansion will come first to Playstation 4 for 30 days before being released on other gaming platforms. This move is expected to be quite lucrative for Sony and Activision, though gamers on other platforms might feel a bit cheated.

IGN promised to keep its readers updated on any juicy details about Awakening that leak, which could include details about new maps and its official release date. (The expected date is sometime between mid and late January.) As of now, we know there are rumors that Skyjacked may be a revamp of the Black Ops 2 map known as Hijacked.

Preliminary images released of Splash are quite intriguing, revealing a water park fully endowed with water slides and pools. Rise seems to be located on a snowy construction site. Images of Gauntlet are very confusing, revealing a jungle, icy cliffs, and an industrial area, leading gamers to wonder whether the map will change during gameplay or be large enough to include so many diverse sets of terrain.

While news about the new downloadable content for Black Ops 3 may not necessarily be shocking, it is certainly exciting for the die-hard Call of Duty gamers.
