Casio Smartwatch: New Hi-Tech Watch En Route For 2016

Casio Smartwatch

Come March of next year, Casio will unveil it’s latest offering: a new smartwatch which will mark the company’s first foray into the world of smartwatches.

The company’s new smartwatch is intended to be more affordable than rivals, including the Apple Watch. It’s designed to be durable as well as easy to wear, according to a report on the Irish Examiner. Unlike many smartwatches already on the market, Casio’s new hi-tech watch will focus first and foremost on being a timepiece, but it will also incorporate additional functionality and fixtures.

The device remains shrouded in mystery with many news outlets clamoring for information about the new product in the pipeline. A source featured in the Irish Examiner hints that the watch may cost as much as $400.

The Wall Street Journal alluded to the fact that Casio has been researching the development of their watch for around 4 years. Casio’s president, Kazuhiro Kashio, who recently replaced his father Kazuo Kashio, recently announced that he is trying to manifest what he calls “watch perfection.”

We are trying to bring our smartwatch to a level of watch perfection: a device that won’t break easily, is simple to put on and feels good to wear.

The company is reaching for the stars with its goal of generating $80 million in sales in light of the reality that Casio has some strong competition in the digital watch space, but a sense of nostalgia for the brand just might strengthen the company’s sales of its new watch.

President Kashio is realistic about the companies new project revealing that he doesn’t expect it to be an “instant success” but he does expect “it to grow in the long term.”

I don’t think the smartwatch will be an instant success but we want it to grow in the long term.

The product is set to ship to Japan in March where, according to a Engadget, it’s expected to generate much of its revenue.
