AdultFriendFinder Hacked, FireEye To Investigate Online Dating Website’s Security Breach

Online Dating

The 64-million-member online dating website for adults known as AdultFriendFinder has been hacked, potentially leaving the personal information of as many as 4 million members exposed, according to a Channel 4 (UK) news report which broke the story following an investigation into the “dark” side of the Internet.

California-based FriendFinder Networks Inc, of which AdultFriendFinder is a part of, touts more than 600 million members across the more than 40,000 websites which it owns. The company confirmed to USA Today that it has “begun working closely with law enforcement and launched a comprehensive investigation with the help of leading third-party forensics expert, Mandiant.”

Mandiant is owned by the high profile security firm FireEye, which has been involved in the aftermath of major security breaches at Sony Pictures, Anthem, Target and JP Morgan Chase.

The breach, according to U.K. news agency Channel 4, may have resulted in the theft of personal member information including sexual preference, marital status, date of birth, email addresses, and physical addresses.

AdultFriendFinder advertises itself as “the hottest dating, hookup and sex community.”

The company indicated in a statement issued last Friday that there is no evidence indicating that the financial information of members has been stolen. In the statement, the company indicated that the security of members’ data remains a “top priority” in light of the breach, Reuters reported via Business Insider.

FriendFinder Networks Inc. recently became aware of a potential data security incident (…) The security of our members’ information remains our top priority and, upon learning of this incident, we took immediate action

In other hacking coverage here at Immortal News, the largest airline in Europe, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, was hacked and the cyber criminals made off with frequent-flyer miles.
