Three men in Alaska, Marty Modley, Rob Uphus, and Avery Vucinich were snowmobiling around Hatcher Pass in the Talkeetna Mountains when they came across an avalanche. According to a report by New York Daily News on Jan. 4, the three men were worried that a skier might have gotten caught under the avalanche. They talked about checking it out and then thought about how dangerous it could be for themselves. However, as soon as they saw something brown moving around in the snow, they knew they had to do something because obviously someone or something was trapped under the avalanche of snow down there.
According to Fox News, Marty Mobley said:
It looked like a guy’s arm at first because we were expecting to see a skier. But it was moaning and groaning and we realized it was a moose, even though only his ears and some of its snout was sticking out of the snow.
The three men then knew what they had to do, dangerous or not, they had to help the poor moose that was stuck under the avalanche. They then grabbed shovels and two of them started to dig the moose out while the third man watched for any signs of another avalanche coming. Once the moose’s head was cleared, Avery Vucinich quickly took a picture. He then said:
We couldn’t turn our back on it. Call it Karma, call it whatever, it was in trouble and we had the chance to help it.
It only took about 10 minutes to have the moose 3 quarters of the way out from under the avalanche. The men wondered if he was hurt because of the huge tumble he took. However, once he was freed all the way, he stood up and looked at all three of them. The men said he looked like the Abdominal Snowman because of all the snow he had on him from being stuck under it. Once he shook all the snow off of his body, he then ran off. It was then that the men realized that he was not injured from the fall.
