Yoselyn Ortega, Nanny Accused Of Killing Children: ‘I’m Sorry’

The New York Nanny accused of brutally killing two children in her care now says she is sorry for what she has done according to court documents filed on Friday reports ABC News.

Ortega plead not guilty for killing 6-year old Lucia Krim and 2-year-old Leo Krim in their own home while their mother was out picking up a third child from a swimming lesson. According to documents, Ortega was disgruntled about her ever-changing work schedule that caused her to miss a “psych” appointment and having to do work not only as nanny to the kids but as cleaning lady as well.

Ortega allegedly told authorities that Lucia tried to defend herself before Ortega stabbed and killed the girl and then Leo. She then attempted suicide by slitting her own throat.

Defense attorney Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg says that Ortega is delusional and does not understand the case however she has been found fit to stand trial for the charges against her. She also asked that the prosecutor be dropped from the case and media barred from the trial – both of which were rejected.

The parents of the slain children, Kevin and Marina Krim rarely speak to the press about Ortega or the deaths of their children except to say : “We are just heartbroken, But they inspire us every day as well. Their lives give us a purpose.”  They have since set up the Lulu and Leo Fund to raise money for children’s education & enrichment programs to honor Lulu & Leo’s love of arts and sciences. In May, 2013 that they were expecting another child.

Just days shy of the 1-year anniversary of the deaths of Lucia and Leo, The Krims welcomed Felix Krim into the world.
