Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel and Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser are parents to a baby boy! Who knew? E News reports that although the baby was born last fall, the couple have managed to keep the news under wraps. Until Scott Patterson spoke to Glamour that is. Patterson was interviewed by the magazine ahead of Netflix’s big Gilmore Girls revival and spoke about how excited he is to get back into character as ‘Luke’ and also about Bledel’s new baby.
Speaking to Glamour about how much Bledel has changed yet stayed the same, Patterson said she has ‘blossomed as a woman and now she’s a proud new mother’, but that ‘she hasn’t changed at all’.
It was great to see her. She’s really blossomed as a woman and now she’s a proud new mother and married and happy. I remember her as an 18-year-old kid, fresh out of college coming into Hollywood and being a little overwhelmed. She’s just the most likeable, intelligent person and adorable human being. She hasn’t changed at all. She looks the same.
Patterson continued to say that he and Bledel are enjoying spending time together and ‘comparing notes’ as new parents because his ‘son is about a year and a half older than her young son’.
We’re comparing notes because my son is about a year and a half older than her young son. I’m showing her photos and videos and what to expect. We’re just really enjoying each other’s company.
The 34-year-old Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star had the baby six months ago, her rep confirmed to People, which means the couple managed to keep their baby news under wraps for half a year, which is practically unheard of if you work in Hollywood.
The couple met when Bledel joined AMC’s hit show Mad Men in season five. Kartheiser has played Pete Campbell since season one. The two started dating a few months after season five had wrapped, according to a feature about Kartheiser in Vulture. Speaking to the magazine about his relationship with Bledel, Kartheiser said the two kept it ‘completely professional’ while they were working together, saying it was ‘just work’.
We were completely professional. We never saw each other out. We never—it was nothing, it was just work.
The people who were on set working with Bledel and Kartheiser at that time all weighed in with thoughts. Jon Hamm insisted that he knew Kartheiser ‘liked her from a very early point’.
I did know he liked her from a very early point. I was a supporter of that union.
Meanwhile Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner said that he told Kartheiser that he and Bledel ‘would be great together’ because they both have ‘a sense of responsibility and strong family ties’.
I told Vinnie that they would be great together. I was like, ‘Don’t blow it!’ Honestly, they’re a really good match. They’re both very down to earth, with a sense of responsibility and strong family ties. And they’ve been acting since before they can remember, which makes for a very special personality. It’s not just that I thought they would look cute together.
Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss told People that she has never seen Kartheiser so in love saying ‘it is really cool’.
They are such a yin and yang. I’ve known Vinny for 12 years and Alexis is just the sweetest. I’ve never seen Vincent like this. It is really cool.
This isn’t the first time Bledel and Kartheiser have managed to keep big news under wraps. The couple were equally secretive about their wedding back in 2014, when they had a top secret wedding ceremony in California in June.
