Alanis Morissette and her husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway are expecting their second child together. The couple, who already have a 5-year-old son named Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, announced the news on the 12th of February via a video Morissette continuously updates with moments from her life.

According to a report in Us Weekly, Morissette first made the video ‘on the sly’ in 2010 when the couple were first married. The 41-year-old singer expressed her desire for the song to ‘take on ever-deepening’ meanings as ‘each year goes by’ and the video now ends with the singer’s sonogram for her second child. In the caption for the video she said, “Written, recorded and produced in 6 hours on may 22, 2010 with guy sigsworth, on the sly, to surprise Souleye. Brendan Huza helped tell our story in moving pictures, bringing us up to this sweet moment. may this song take on ever-deepening meaning as each year goes by :) xoxo.”

Entertainment Weekly reports that Morissette reached out to a fellow mother in her Guardian column, after the latter admitted to feeling trapped at home by motherhood. Morissette said that raising a child does “not leave room for much else” on a mother’s list of priorities, calling the commitment made by the mom ‘commendable’.

One of my pet peeves is when people say mothers have to take care of their needs first. The commitment you have made to being at home to raise your children is beyond commendable. It will afford them security as they continue to develop, but it does not leave room for much else on your list of priorities right now. This is a gift you are offering them that they will carry with them through every stage of their development.

The singer seems to have very positive views on pregnancy and motherhood, and recently revealed the source of her “bliss” to WebMD, saying “the hormonal blasting of miracle juice” was making he happy.

There are so many reasons for the bliss. Not the least of which is the hormonal blasting of miracle juice that’s going on with the pregnancy alone!
