This year’s hosts for the MTV Movie Awards have been announced as none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Johnson, a 43-year-old California born actor and WWE superstar, referred to his co-hosting of the 2016 MTV Movie Awards as “an honor” while his co-host referred to their combined force as “the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show.”
It’s an honor to be hosting the MTV Movie Awards with a guy who’s not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who’s often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart […] We live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgettable night for them.
Hart referred to hosting as his “thing” while noting that it’s going down this year.
I love hosting—it’s my thing. Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show. It’s going to go down.
The filming of this year’s award show is scheduled to be taped in a live-style the day before its April 9 broadcast, according to Variety who also reports that the filming is to be spread out across multiple locations instead of the typical singular location.
According to Variety, the decision to film across multiple locations is a breakthrough for awards shows, as it will mark the first time an award show has been filmed in such a capacity.
Earlier today, on February 20, Philly born comedian and actor Hart and The Rock participated in a live promotional event streamed at 2:00 p.m. (ET) through YouTube, Meerkat, YouNow, Facebook Live and Periscope. During the event, which was streamed live, fans were given the opportunity to directly participate in the event through social media by using the hashtag #movieawards, which allowed them to write and direct the promo piece in what E! Online reported to have been a once-in-lifetime opportunity.
The 36-year-old Hart, who took home the Comedic Genius Award at last year’s MTV Movie Awards, and Johnson will, according to the award show’s executive producer Casey Patterson, make the perfect hosts for this year’s show because they not only “represent what it means to be a movie star right now,” but they engage with their fans.
We could not be in better hands than with these two guys because they really represent what it means to be a movie star right now […] They talk directly to their fans all the time. They are always in a conversation with their fans.
The awards show is scheduled to air at 8:00 p.m. on April 10, 2016.
