Daniel Dion Dies Battling Cancer

Céline Dion’s brother Daniel Dion died January 16. The French-Canadian pop star’s husband René Angélil died January 14, just two days before. He was 73-years-old. Both men died of cancer.

Daniel Dion suffered from brain, throat and tongue cancer for several years according to People Magazine. An obituary posted on People Magazine’s website stated that Dion was 59-years-old and the eighth child of 16. He died surrounded by his family including his 88-year-old mother.

The Daily Mail UK reported that Dion died in the family’s native Montreal and that his last days were spent in a palliative care center. The news publication also printed a full version of Dion’s obituary. According to The Daily Mail UK Dion’s sister said of the disease that “our family is very experienced” referring to the recent death of her brother-in-law Angélil.

Angélil had suffered from cancer several times since 1998.

Angélil, Céline Dion’s husband and manager, also died of cancer the day before his 74th birthday and shortly after the couple’s 21st wedding anniversary. Angélil had suffered from cancer several times since 1998. He died from throat cancer. The couple has three sons.

As reported by NBC NEWS Today, the funeral is to be held at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. This is the same church where the couple was married and it was part of his final wishes. The media outlet also reported that a Chapel of Rest will be open to the public January 21 and a religious service is scheduled for the next day.

Céline Dion has canceled her next two Las Vegas performances and is tentatively scheduled to return in February.
