Skarp Laser Razor Raises Over $1.5 Million On Kickstarter

Skarp Laser Razor

The Skarp Razor is not your father’s razor. While its appearance resembles that of a traditional razor, it’s actually a futuristic shaving tool which through hair with a small laser.

With over two weeks left in its fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, the new laser shaver has already managed to raise over $1.5 million from more than 8,800 backers.

The new shaving device, the Skarp Razor by Skarp Technologies, is touted by it makers as “the future of shaving!” According to its campaign page, it doesn’t leave scratches, razor burn, infections, itch or other irritations and it doesn’t require expensive replacement cartridges. It’s also “environmentally friendly” and uses little to no water.

On the environmentally friendly aspect, its makers note that 2 billion razors or razor heads are tossed in the trash each year — and that’s in the U.S. alone. As a result of their hazardous nature and the difficulty in sorting that it creates, they are discarded into land fills and garbage dumps.

The Skarp Razor is the future of shaving!

Taking water into consideration, the product’s makers note that many areas around the world are going through droughts and as a result, they are paying more for water. Were these droughts to increase in occurrence and severity, water usage would be increasingly restricted.

The idea for this innovative new shaving system was first conceived by Morgan Gustavsson, MBBS, back in 2001. But at the time, Morgan realized that the technology was not quite where it needed to be so it wasn’t until 2009, after nearly a decade of research that he made a breakthrough with the discovery of a wavelength capable of cutting any color of hair.

Come 2013, Morgan, who had invented the hair removal and dermatology treatment method known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) back in 1989, joined forces with Paul Binun and the pair quickly developed a working solution.

What do you think, is this new laser powered razor going to give the Dollar Shave Club, BIC Razors and the rest of the beard-cutting, mustache-trimming shaving industry a run for its money as it revolutionizes the world of shaving?
