David Letterman Comes Out Of Retirement For Climate Change Series

Late night talk-show legend David Letterman has taken a break from retirement to become a guest correspondent for the series “Years of Living Dangerously,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Producers Joel Bach and David Gelber are currently working on the second season of the show that will premiere on the National Geographic Channel in the fall of 2016. “The reason why Letterman’s part of this is that we just noticed that he seemed to perk up when this issue came across his lap,” Joel Bach commented. “We reached out to him to see if he’d want to be a part of this, and he said, ‘Absolutely.'”

Letterman will be heading to India to interview Prime Minister Narenda Modi in regards to the energy concerns of the nation. According to producer David Gelber, Letterman is very excited to go to the country, as he has never been there before. Letterman’s experience in the late-night arena makes him more than capable to interview such a prestigious person for the show. “Dave will be a terrific correspondent for us,” Gelber said. “We’re very comfortable having him with the Prime Minister of India — I’m not sure there are that many people we’d be comfortable setting up in that kind of role. He’s a wonderful interviewer.”

Letterman will not be the only celebrity traveling abroad for the second season of the climate change series. Returning guest Arnold Schwarzenegger will be traveling to China, according to the New York Daily News. Other guest stars for season two of the show include “Modern Family” star Ty Burrell, director James Cameron, as well as actors Don Cheadle, Olivia Munn, and Jack Black.

Courtney Monroe, CEO of the National Geographic Channel, is not surprised at the strong celebrity participation the show has drawn. “What’s interesting and important is this is not a political issue at all, but it’s an incredibly important issue that affects all of us as people living on this planet,” she said. “I think that’s why they’re able to attract the names that they’ve attracted.”
