Caitlyn Jenner Car Crash: 50-50 Chance Of Manslaughter Charges

The investigation by Los Angeles police into a fatal four car collision involving Caitlyn Jenner has been completed. According to CNN, the results of the investigation mean that Jenner could face a charge of misdemeanor manslaughter.

Detective Richard Curry, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective, discussed the status of Jenner’s case on Thursday. Detective Curry stated that the reality television star’s case will be moving on to the district attorney, in order “to see if it is worthy of a misdemeanor violation for involuntary manslaughter.”

The accident took place on February 7 of this year. Jenner was behind the wheel of a black Cadillac SUV on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, when she rear ended 69-year-old Kimberly Howe, who was driving a Lexus. The impact of the collision sent Howe’s vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic, and it was hit by another SUV. According to police reports, Howe died at the scene of the collision.

After the accident, Jenner released a statement extending her “heartfelt and deepest sympathies” to Howe’s family and loved ones. The driver of a Prius that stopped in front of Howe’s vehicle and two of Howe’s stepchildren are suing Jenner.

TMZ reports, however, that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department clams that they do not recommend that Caitlyn Jenner be prosecuted for manslaughter. The Sheriff’s Department report did conclude that Jenner was in violation of the misdemeanor manslaughter law, due to the fact that she was driving at an unsafe speed. However, some sources state that there is only a fifty percent chance that Jenner will face charges, and law enforcement sources specifically doubt that she will be prosecuted at all. These sources state that Jenner behaved no differently than other drivers who may have caused a collision due to lack of attentiveness, the thing that makes Jenner’s case unique being that the positioning of the vehicles involved in the collision caused a deadly trajectory for the Lexus.

My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them.

If Jenner is convicted of involuntary manslaughter, she can face up to one year in prison, according to Staney Goldman, a Loyola law professor. Alan Neirob, Jenner’s publicist declined to comment on the status of the case.
