Schumers Tackle Gun Control With Words

Politicians are usually the target of comedians like Amy Schumer, but recently the humor heroine teamed up with first cousin Senator Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) to address American’s gun violence in the wake of a shooting at a showing of Schumer’s recent comedy “Trainwreck”.

The Washington Post reported that the two Schumers spoke before reporters this past Monday to address what happened at the movie-theater shooting in Lafayette, La., and to discuss the politicians three-point gun control plan.

Discussing what happened at the theater was not an easy task for Schumer. She was observed as talking through a shaky voice as she addressed what would cause someone to perpetrate such a terrible act.

Schumer was quoted as saying we rarely know “why people choose to do” such acts, but that we always “find out how.”

We never know why people choose to do these painful things, but sadly we always find out how.

After the actress/comedian spoke, Senator Schumer took the stage to talk about his gun control plan.

MSNBC said that Schumer’s proposal aims to “keep weapons out of the hands of people with a violent crime history and/or mental illness.” Those measures include offering “financial incentives” to states who provide the federal government with data in order to do more comprehensive background checks for potential gun buyers.

(Schumer’s) proposal seeks to keep weapons out of the hands of people with a violent criminal history and/or mental illness by providing financial incentives for states that submit data to the federal government for more fully-rounded checks while penalizing states that don’t.

According to Politico, the Schumers were under pressure from the survivors of the 2014 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, who sent Amy an open letter asking her to use her voice on behalf of the survivors and those who were lost.
