Holocaust Survivors Condemn Israel Over Gaza ‘Genocide’

More than 300 holocaust survivors and descendants condemned Israel for its ongoing assault of Gaza, what they call a “genocide” and accused the Jewish state of participating in a “massacre of the Palestinian people.”

The letter, which was placed as an advertisement in The New York Times on Saturday, was sponsored by the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network and signed by 40 Jewish Holocaust survivors and 287 descendants and other relatives, BBC reported.

Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel’s comparison of Hamas militants to Nazi Germany, which was published in major news organizations worldwide, prompted IJAN’s reply.

The group alleged Wiesel of “abuse of history” to justify Israel’s occupation of Gaza.

“We are disgusted and outraged by Elie Wiesel’s abuse of our history in these pages to justify the unjustifiable: Israel’s wholesale effort to destroy Gaza and the murder of more than 2,000 Palestinians, including many hundreds of children,” the statement read.

Nothing can justify bombing UN shelters, homes, hospitals and universities. Nothing can justify depriving people of electricity and water.

The group criticized the “extreme, racist dehumanization” of Palestinians in the Israeli society. Several politicians and pundits via op-eds have openly called for Palestinian’s genocide, wherein at least seven commentaries calling for Gaza’s elimination have been circulating online.

IJAN also condemned the United States for funding and providing aid to Israel to further carry out attacks against Palestine, Haaretz reported.

“We further condemn the United States for providing Israel with the funding to carry out the attack, and Western states  generally for using their diplomatic muscle to protect Israel from condemnation,” it said. “Genocide begins with the silence of the world.”

The statement called for the end of blockade in Gaza and complete boycott of Israel.
